It would be immensely helpful if it was possible to draw a path for a light source to follow. We typically add backlighting to 3 dimensional signs (we're in the event / trade show design space) and I would love to be able to trace the letters of a word or company logo shape and have the lighting follow the path I draw before the object essentially becomes flush-mounted to a wall or other surface.
This is something that I'm looking for a long time. I also need a lot of indirect lighting in my scenes, displays with led plinth, backlit logo's etc. On items that are straight I use linear lights but when it comes to curved or freeform shapes it is almost impossible to get it done right and consumes a lot of time. I think that "mesh lights" like in V-Ray are the thing we are looking for. Sometimes I use the "glow" setting of a material for this matter but most of the times it doesn't has the power to get the right output.
