Sheen/Falloff Parameter for Velvet Material

The sheen / falloff parameter is essential for creating any kind of velvet, satin, or sateen fabric on furniture. Without it, Enscape users are severely limited in the kind of materials that can be shown on furniture, drapes etc.

Velvet looks entirely different from fabrics with less sheen, such cotton, linen, and nylon. The current workarounds do not get anything close to what a velvet material looks like, and a simple parameter for even an approximation of fabric sheen would make a world of difference.

    Hi Lincoln,

Thanks a lot for taking the time to share this, and for explaining so clearly why sheen matters for velvet, satin, and sateen fabrics.

We actually did explore a sheen / falloff parameter, but our prototypes showed a noticeable performance hit (on top of required development and maintanence efforts needed). On top of that, Enscape is mainly focused on early design and on helping you make design decisions quickly, and this kind of request has not come up very often. So for now we have decided not to add it.

For more realistic visualization needs like velvet, Enscape-Envision is the better fit. It is now directly linked from Enscape, and you can use Cosmos assets that already come with sheen right away. If you have not tried Envision yet, I would really encourage you to give it a go.

Thanks again for the feedback, it genuinely helps us shape the product.

    Best,
    Mehmet
