Custom assets with variations

This idea was previously declined but I had to put in my two cents to illustrate how much this feature would benefit my office workflow.

We're an office of ~50 architects and are just realizing the power of a custom Enscape library of assets, enabling us to use real-life furniture from our clients and distributors or custom assets that better align with our studio's image. I'm responsible for administrating and expanding this library and further introducing it into our workflow. The moment I helped a colleague connect to our custom library through our own server, the first thing he said was "what if I want a different material for this chair?"

In the aforementioned idea that was declined, the Chaos team responded:

"[...] With the Custom Asset Editor, you are free to save multiple versions of your custom assets with different colors that you can use in the project, which might be a workaround for your use case"

The problem is, how exactly can my colleague "save multiple versions of your custom asset"? In the list of custom assets in the custom asset editor there is no button called "create copy". The only way I can see to create a copy of the asset is to just create a brand new asset with the same name and upload the same geometry and placeholder, take a thumbnail of it, and THEN change the color/material. This is something only I can do in the office because we can't expect every architect to learn how to handle OBJ geometry and the full Enscape Custom Asset Workflow. This means that I'm the only one who can adress every office inquiry for new materials for the same asset.

If my colleagues could simply add a new variation of the asset for every time they'd like different colors/materials, it would be much simpler and would not require the re-creation of custom assets that we already have in our library, and that's why "custom assets with variations" would be a very powerful feature for our office.

    We understand your situation.
There are two different saving paths in the Custom Asset Editor. One for the Asset, one for the project file.
If you saved your Asset project and provided access to the project file path to your colleagues, they would be able to simply exchange an individual or several materials and save it as Asset by themselves. No need to re-upload geometry or anything.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm still confused. Do you mean that my colleagues can copy paste the asset project file in the file explorer? Or do you mean inside the Custom Asset Editor window?
